Dormont Psychological Services

A little about me

I am a licensed psychologist who has been practicing for over 20 years. I participate in PSYPACT (a program that allows psychologist to practice in multiple states), and so I am able to provide Telehealth services to clients residing in most of the 50 states.

To find out if you are in a state that I can work with, click the link below to make sure you are in a participating state.

Getting Started

Just a bit of information for you, I generally do one-on-one therapy with teens (age 14 and up) and adults. I will often talk to potential new clients on the phone briefly to see if we would be a good fit working together. We will go over things like location, insurance, reason to be seen and schedule compatibility. Let me address a few of these things here.

Location

My office is in Dormont, PA, in the South Hills of Pittsburgh - but I am currently only seeing people online via "telehealth". That may not be a fit for everyone, but if you feel like it could be a fit, keep reading.

Insurance

I take most insurances, but not everything. After we we talk on the phone and set up a scheduled appointment, I will get a copy of your insurance card to verify your benefits. But, it always helps to be familiar with your insurance benefits. You may want to find out what your "out patient mental health benefits" are and if I am on the "panel".

Scheduling

Sometimes it can be a challenge to find someone who works with your schedule. Currently, I see people Monday - Friday Eastern Time during the day. I don't currently have any evening or weekend appointments.

Reason to be seen

It would help to know the reasons you want to be seen. I have been working in the field a long time and have worked with a wide variety of issues, but it usually helps to briefly discuss your main concerns. This would help us both determine if we would be a good fit working together.

If exploring this further seems like an interest, feel free to give me a call (or send an email). See below for details.

Please know that I am a solo practice and don't have any staff, so allow 24-48 hours for a return call. Leave me good times to reach you and I will do my best to return a call during those times.

I look forward to talking with you.

Therapy

I specialize in individual therapy with older adolescents and adults. I work with a wide range of life problems and concerns, including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, relationship issues, autism, ADHD, eating-related concerns, trauma, family issues, illness, loss, and academic/work stress.

My therapy style is warm, empathic, and collaborative. I tailor my approach to each client’s unique personality and needs, and I draw from from my training and experience with Internal Family Systems (IFS), cognitive-behavioral interventions (CBT); mindfulness-based approaches; Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) and trauma-informed treatments.

Individual therapy is an opportunity to dive deep into the things that leave you feeling frustrated or numb. Often in individual therapy I use IFS (Internal Family Systems), an evidenced-based psychological approach which helps you to find greater inner-harmony and peace.

IFS emphasizes that we are all born with a Self that has innate, healing capacities. Throughout life, we develop adaptive survival and protective strategies in response to the unique challenges and characteristics of our body, environment, family, culture, relationships, and life experiences. IFS involves building a compassionate relationship with these protective strategies, understanding their original intentions, and healing the wounds that once made them necessary. As we heal, we can release burdens that no longer serve us and reconnect with ourselves, others, and our environment in more meaningful, harmonious, and fulfilling ways.
